Joint Health Care - Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a common disease that develops when the linings of the joints fail to maintain normal structure, leading to pain and decreased mobility. It is associated with aging and injury.
Lifestyle change can certainly help in alleviating arthritic conditions, especially in pain relief. Obesity is a risk factor for arthritis of the weight bearing joints such as the knees. Weight loss can greatly reduce pain levels in the weight bearing areas.
Glucosamine Sulfate, a nutrient derived from crustacean shells contains building blocks needed for repair of joint cartilage. All published clinical investigations on the effects of Glucosamine Sulfate in people with osteoarthritis report statistically significant improvement. Most research trials use 500 mg of Glucosamine Sulfate taken three times per day.  Chondroitin Sulfate is a major component of the lining of the joints and osteoarthritis reduces the levels of Chondroitin Sulfate in joint cartilage, therefore this is to be taken as a supplement. Many double blind studies have shown that Chondroitin Sulfate reduces pain and increases joint mobility. Some of the other ingredients that have made headlines in providing relief to joint pain are curcumin (a turmeric extract), gingerols (ginger extract), MSM, Hyaluronic acid, collagen and boswellic acids from boswellia serrata. Omega 3 from fish oil has also been established as an effective ingredient that can provide relief to joint pain.

Markovit offers three specially designed products in this category:

  • Flexo-Max which is the standard product containing the highly popular combination of glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin sulfate and MSM.

  • FlexoJoint with HA that has a combination of Glucosamine Sulfate, Collagen, Boswellia Serrata extract and Hyaluronic acid.

  • Turmeric-CurcuGin which is a unique formula containing high dosage of curcumin and gingerols. Black pepper extract is added to enhance the absorption of curcumin, without which the absorption rate can be extremely low. Other than providing relief to joint pain, Curcumin is also known to assist in the enhancement of anti-oxidant properties in the body.

Several reports suggest that Curcumin boosts Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), linked to improved brain function and a lower risk of brain diseases. The boosting of BDNF can also provide relief from depression.

Curcumin has beneficial effects on several factors known to play a role in heart disease. Some It is touted as a compound that improves the function of the endothelium and is a potent anti-inflammatory agent and antioxidant.

Fish Oil Omega Gold 1400 is an enteric coated softgel that is easy to swallow. Research shows that omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation and may help lower risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and arthritis. Most clinical studies examining omega-3 fatty acid supplements for arthritis have focused on rheumatoid arthritis (RA), an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the joints. Several small studies have found that fish oil helps reduce symptoms of RA, including joint pain and morning stiffness. One study suggests that people with RA who take fish oil may be able to lower their dose of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). However, unlike prescription medications, fish oil does not appear to slow progression of RA, only to treat the symptoms.
